Spring vacation in Siena

What to do when the weather is nice

Finally in Borgo Scopeto the wisteria has blossomed and this means that the spring has officially arrived! The days have lengthened, the birds are chirping and nature explodes with its colors and scents. For those who are thinking about a nice spring holiday in Siena, here are some points on what to do.

1. Urban trekking

Explore the city of the Palio with an itinerary that includes not only the main artistic monuments, but also the most suggestive alleys, away from the main streets. Among the goodies:
• the Jewish ghetto;
• the Fosso di Sant’Ansano;
• the Source of the Nuns;
• urban gardens such as the Botanical Gardens, the Tolomei Gardens and the Pecci Gardens.

2. Pic-nic in the countryside

Siena is enclosed in an envious rural landscape, which gives its best in spring; from the Chianti hills, to the Crete, the Val di Merse, to the cypresses of the Val d’Orcia, it will be easy to find the perfect spot for a picnic in the countryside. A stop in the countryside savoring typical products of the area, from the Cinta Senese cold cuts, to fresh broad beans with pecorino cheese, strictly accompanied by Tuscan bread and red wine.

3. Visit Villas and Gardens

An experience to try at least once is a visit to the villas and gardens in the province of Siena. In fact, there are numerous palaces and castles scattered outside the walls of Siena, not to be missed:
• the Volte di Vicobello, with its sixteenth-century garden, its lemon house and the holm oak grove;
• the Villa di Cetinale, from the late seventeenth century with its eighteenth-century park strewn with religious symbols;
• the Castle of Celsa, in a neo-Gothic style covered with ivy with its formal Italian garden;
• the Castle of Belcaro, a small village complete with walls and a chapel, with its outdoor park of native and exotic plants, and a small internal garden with box hedges and potted lemons.

4. Wine tastings

Spring is also the time when the cellars reopen their doors to food and wine tourism. How can you not take advantage of this opportunity to immerse yourself in the Tuscan wine culture? Let's not forget that in the province of Siena some of the most recognized Italian wines in the world are produced such as Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Nobile di Montepulciano. Discover our wineries.

5. Art in contact with nature

Admiring contemporary works of art in an open-air museum is possible with The Chianti Sculpture Park, located a few steps from Borgo Scopeto. It is a space in the woods where the works of 27 artists from all over the world are collected, including interactive works such as an 80-meter glass labyrinth.
